Electric bus of KSRTC recently successfully completed four-day trial run in Kochi and left for Kozhikode. KSRTC said that the trial of the electric bus was “75 per cent successful” and the bus collected an average of Rs 40-45 per km.
M Tajudheen Sheikh, KSRTC regional officer speaking to TOI said “On the fifth day, the bus left for Kozhikode with 62 passengers. It covered 231 km and recorded a collection of Rs 7,987 on this long-distance trip.”
Despite of traffic blocks and poor road conditions of Ernakulam city the electric bus still covered around 250 km in a day. The bus gained a speed of 70-75 km/hour in the city. If the infrastructure of the city can be improved the electric bus will be able to run around 300 km a day said Sheikh to the publication.
According to the report the electric bus on the first day covered 170km with 218 commuters. And the collection was Rs 7,061. On the second day of the trial run, it covered 247km with 317 commuters and the collection was Rs 10,656.
On the third day it covered 261km with 367 commuters and the collection touched Rs 12,231. On the concluding day, it covered 261km with 312 passengers and the collection was Rs 12,231.
