Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation to install grid connected rooftop solar power project

Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation (BMC)is reportedly going green installing grid connected rooftop solar power plant. Solar power will be used for lighting streets and other areas.

Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation’s solar power project is expected to cost around Rs20 crore. Out of the 20 crore , Rs 15crore would be spent on rooftop grid connected solar system and Rs 5crore on street lights, lights in parks and high mast light on traffic junctions among other areas says a report.

ET citing BMC sources reports that Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) will provide assistance for the installation of grind connected rooftop solar power project.

Bhagalpur Smart City Limited (BSCL) will look after the installation of other solar energy system.

A source from BMC speaking to the publication said, “The solar energy system will be installed in phase-wise manner. In the first phase, 90 places have been identified for installing solar panels for highmast lights and streetlights, followed by 500-1000 streetlights in the city areas.”

“Our plan is to tap solar energy for which Rs 20 crore would be spent on the project. By tapping the non-conventional source of solar energy, our dependency on conventional source of power supply system will come down,” said BMC commissioner Shyam Bihari Meena to ET.
