In a bid to make pollution free and boost green vehicles in the National Capital New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has prepared a roadmap and finalised a model to start the public e-scooter sharing system to provide last mile connectivity.
NDMC has zeroed on the concessionaire for building, operating and maintaining the public e-scooter sharing system at 50 locations reports ToI.
A senior official speaking to the publication said that red e-scooters will run for 100km after a full charge and can travel at an average speed of 45km per hour. The e-scooters will come with swappable lithium batteries and cost around Rs 1 lakh each.
The official said “While the tender process for the project started in January, the contractor could not be finalised. Now we have sought the election commission’s permission to finalise the decision as the model code of conduct is in force due to the Lok Sabha elections.”
According to the report the project will be implemented in two phases. 500 e-scooters will be procured in the first phase and provided on rent at 50 stations while the remaining 500 will be made available in the next phase.
The scooters can be hired for a minimum of 15 mintues for less than Rs 10. The per minute charge will be 50 paisa and will be increased to 62 paisa after two hours.
The contractor will need at least five to six months to construct the platforms, and arrange infrastructure for the project.
Power supply will be provided by NDMC for charging the batteries of the e-scooters.
