Andaman Lieutenant Governor flags off electric buses, will curb pollution on island
Admiral (Retd.) D K Joshi, the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands recently flagged-off fleet of electric buses. The project for 40 electric buses is being executed by NVVN Limited, a 100% subsidiary of NTPC Limited. The introduction of electric buses in the Island union territory will help cut down tail pipe emissions as well as provide comfortable public transport.
Chief Minister of Goa inaugurates first public EV charging station installed by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL)
The Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the first public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging unit today, as part of the Green Goa Initiative. The EV charger has been installed by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL) at the Assembly Complex of Goa Legislative Secretariat. It is a 142 KW fast charger and is first among the 12 public EV chargers to be set up by CESL. The Chief Minister also flagged off two Electric Vehicles — a Hyundai Kona and a Tata Tigor from Goa Legislature Secretariat, Assembly Complex, Porvorim.
Joy E Bikes Launches 4 Electric Motorcycles and new manufacturing plant In Vadodara
Joy e-bikes, subsidiary of Wardwizard Innovations & Mobility has launched 4 new high performance electric motorcycles named as Hurricane, Thunderbolt, Skyline and Beast in India. On the design part Joy Beast looks identical to Kawasaki’s Z series of motorcycles, while Thunderbolt derives obvious design inspiration from the Kawasaki Ninja. Other two bikes Hurricane and Skyline looks too has been inspired from popular motorcycle designs.
Matter, an Ahmedabad-based tech start-up to launch electric vehicles and a range of energy solutions
Gujarat-based tech start-up Matter said it would launch electric vehicles and a range of energy solutions in India starting 2021. The start-up, which came into existence in 2019, will manufacture electric motorcycles for the Indian market.
Grinntech’s facility to produce Lithium-Ion batteries goes on stream
Grinntech Motors, engaged in manufacturing Lithium-Ion batteries for electric vehicles, commenced production at its facility in Tamil Nadu. The company in October 2020 had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu entailing investments of Rs 100 crore.
Either rejig the FAME 2 scheme or reintroduce FAME 1 says SMEV
The Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) has asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ahead of upcoming Union Budget to either rejig the FAME 2 scheme or reintroduce FAME 1. SMEV said that the programme meant to promote EVs in its second avatar has been able to achieve less than 10 per cent of its target. The Rs 10,000-crore FAME-2 scheme which is to be implemented over a period of three years, came into effect from April 1, 2019.
Fortum expands its electric vehicle battery recycling operations with a new mechanical processing plant
In conjunction with the launch of Finland’s national battery strategy, Fortum has announced the further expansion of its battery recycling operations. In February 2021, Fortum will open a new mechanical recycling processing plant located in Ikaalinen, Finland. The world will increasingly need sustainable raw materials for EV batteries, as the electrification of cars is rapidly increasing the need for the valuable materials and chemical elements that batteries contain, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese.
