Chairperson of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), M K Goel speaking to ET said that the government is serious about promoting renewable energy and it is completely wrong assuming that JERC has vested interests in promoting thermal energy alone.
Responding to the allegation cum query of a citizen, Ashish Kamat he said “National level studies and debates are being conducted on solar power. Both solar and coal-based plants have to run hand-in-hand for the stability of the grid. We cannot expect one to rise at the cost of the other.” He further added” the government wouldn’t have considered importing coal if it was serious about renewable energy.”
Goel also said the department cannot refuse connections citing the excuse that its transformers are overloaded.
